The WellMed Charitable Foundation has awarded $25,000 to the Great Age Movement to fund an expansion of Great Age Fitness Park™ at Houston’s St. Dominic Village.

This year, the WellMed Charitable Foundation has awarded grant funding to 37 organizations supporting older adults in Texas and Florida as part of a $1.4 million grant partnership with charities focusing on social determinants of health, including food insecurity, economic security, transportation, housing and social isolation.

Launched in 2017, the Great Age Movement is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that creates indoor and outdoor wellness programs for seniors in Houston and surrounding areas. Its Great Age Fitness Park™ features 21 evidence-based fitness stations which help build muscle strength, improve cardiac output and balance brain enhancement, all while offering socialization. A certified instructor and trained volunteers will oversee workouts at the Fitness Park.

“This donation from the WellMed Charitable Foundation is providing invaluable opportunities for improved health and fitness among Houston’s senior population,” said Great Age Movement founder Fritz McDonald. “We are grateful for their support in expanding the reach of our mission.”

The WellMed Charitable Foundation also made grants to other Texas nonprofits:

• Austin: Central Texas Food Bank ($50,000), SAIVA ($20,000), Catholic Charities of Texas ($10,000)
• Corpus Christi: Coastal Bend Council of Governments ($25,000), Victoria Senior Citizen Center ($25,000)
• Dallas/Ft Worth: Metrocrest Services ($25,000), Senior Citizens of Greater Dallas ($25,000), Texas Ramp Project ($25,000), Sixty and Better ($15,000), Meals on Wheels of Collin County ($15,000), Meals on Wheels of North Central Texas ($15,000)
• El Paso: Casa de Peregrinos Inc. ($25,000), El Pasoans Fighting Hunger ($25,000)
• Houston: Great Age Movement ($25,000), Bread of Life ($25,000)
• Rio Grande Valley: Amigos Del Valle ($20,000), Catholic Charities RGV ($20,000), Silver Ribbon Community Partners ($10,000)
